Mindless Giving

December 25th, 2008 · 3 Comments

I hope your season is going very well with you and yours. And, for those of you who celebrate Christmas, “Merry Christmas!”

If you are like me, Christmas day is a bit of a dichotomy. On one hand, you are relieved that the shopping is all over. And, on the other hand, you start worrying* about what to give next year. Christmas shouldn’t be about that but, for most of us, let’s face it, (at the risk of sounding like a Scrooge), it is somewhat of a chore and that’s the facts.

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • Sleepless nights planning parties and events.
  • Hours at the shopping center, trying to find the right gift.
  • Getting past the flu season.
  • Plain ol’ STRESS.

After gifts were opened, this morning, I remembered something that I wanted to share from last night.

Christmas Eve

Last night, we played the game called Scavenger Hunt. For those of you who have not heard of this game: It’s a party game where you look for or “scavenge” for random, everyday, items that are on a list.

The person who finds the most items, within a set amount of time, WINS!

Well, I didn’t win the prize this time but I came away with something better, at least I think so.

Give It a Try

I invite you to Give It a try. When you find yourself walking past a person of destitute, a beggar, a person looking as though they are in need; without thinking, in the moment; scavenge through your stuff and give them something of yours. It could be a smile, a lighter, a pen, a notebook, a bottle of water, a scarf, etc.

Once given, do not regret that it may have been inappropriate; just know that whatever you offered was all in perfection and trust that it WAS appropriate.

I know what you’re thinking. “Why is Lil talking about mindLESS thinking? Isn’t this website about developing a focused mind and being conscious of your thoughts?”

Actually, this website IS really meant to be about SUPER conscious thought and connecting to the Cosmic Consciousness. Interestingly, the more you connect to this universal mind, the more mindLESS your actions will need to be as I talked a little about in a previous post called Don’t Use This Buddhist Meditation Technique.

What Goes Around…

You’ve heard of the phrase, “What goes around, comes around,” This holds true for positive as well as negative thoughts and actions.

I’m not saying that if you give someone a pencil, you will get a pencil back. No, but if you clearly know what you want, that pencil could just as well be returned for something you desire; a new car perhaps. The cosmic consciousness does not discern the cost of an object or its size.

Making Your List and Checking It Twice

It is not too early to start Your wish LIST for next year. Think of it as writing your own letter to Santa with a list of your wishes OR for the Great Scavenger who will look for the items on your list in the Cosmic Consciousness, if you will. But make sure that what’s on your list is clearly thought out and is really what you want.

As they say, “Be careful what you ask for.” You may get it!

* Note: I have to admit that I lied (to make a point) here, at the asterick above. I really do not have any problems knowing what to give anymore. The right gift just seems to reveal itself to me at the right time.

Lea, That is the nicest thing! By the way, your comment above is the first thing I saw after I started up my computer this morning. What a great way to start off 2009!
