Control the Mind Using Self Hypnosis

July 17th, 2008 · No Comments

Using hypnosis to control the mind is something many self help gurus and authors are teaching but even they may not know it. These self help teachers inevitably use the same basic principles that are taught when learning how to control the mind using hypnosis.

Self hypnosis is really a form of self help but those who advocate self help material don’t typically come out and say, “control the mind using hypnosis!”

Whether they know it or not, most of them do not use the term “hypnosis,” to describe their methods as the word sometimes comes across in a negative way. It conjures up visions of people in freak shows standing up, flapping their arms up and down like a chicken across the stage; and pecking at the hypnotist until even he’s had enough and claps his hands to stop the fiasco.

So, of course, when I’ve implemented some of their methods, I didn’t know that I was actually hypnotizing myself. I would never have knowingly “hypnotize” myself. And, if I knew then that I was hypnotizing myself; I was “controlling the mind;” I may not have done it in the first place.

But, you know what, the outcome has always been positive for me.

Now-a-days, I could care less what it was called.

As they say, “A rose by any other name…”

Once you are aware of this though, you realize that many self help books are filled with terms like:

  • Visualization
  • Positive Affirmations
  • Relaxation Techniques
  • Clearing the Mind Techniques

You’ll notice that these self help terms are strikingly similar in the language of self hypnosis. The main difference is in the presentation of the self help material.

Have you hypnotized yourself lately?

Do these steps sound familiar?

  • Close your eyes
  • Relax
  • Think of a quiet place

If the answer is, “yes,” I hate to tell you this but you’ve performed self hypnosis!

Think of the times you’ve been reading a book only to realize you’ve gone through a few pages but you can’t remember a word of what you’ve just read. In this case, your mind was distracted by other thoughts yet you continued to function, you continued to read.

How about driving to work and you couldn’t remember what roads you took or anything except that you left your house and suddenly, you appeared at work? Doesn’t this sound familiar?

The point of this article is that self hypnosis is just self help in another form. It’s not something new. You’ve been using it in some form or another. Wouldn’t it be better to take control of your mind and designate, just exactly, when and how you use hypnosis on yourself?

Still don’t like the term hypnosis? Call it whatever you want as long as you are able to learn how to control the mind, your mind, to realize your fullest potential.
