Contact Lenses and the Power of Attraction

January 30th, 2009 · No Comments

We would like to acknowledge 20-20 Optical for providing us with this interesting article on how something simple as using contact lenses can greatly affect how you are perceived and greatly impact your power of attraction quotient. – Lilly

Contact Lenses and the Power of Attraction

According to recent research, wearing contact lenses instead of glasses can significantly increase your pulling power. Of course this might not come as any real surprise to fans of Dorothy Parker who famously said, “Men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses.”

This is a stereotype that plenty of movie makers are only too happy to exploit. How many films can you think of, for example, where a geek is transformed into a goddess via an elaborate makeover process that starts with glasses being removed?

I think 20-20 meant: Where a “geek” is transformed into a “gent,” maybe?

The study that demonstrated that wearing contact lenses instead of glasses can boost your attractiveness to the opposite sex was carried out in a London nightclub. Participants were divided into three groups:

  • Those who wore their usual form of eyewear
  • Those who swapped their usual contact lenses for glasses
  • Those who swapped their usual glasses for contact lenses

Unbeknownst to the participants, eight monitors walked around the club watching them to confirm whether their perceptions of events were accurate.

The vast majority of those who switched to contact lenses said they felt more confident whilst nearly 80% of those who switched to glasses said that they felt less confident. Possibly more significantly double the number of contact lens wearers compared to glasses wearers said that they had kissed someone that evening.

However, although contact lenses might make people feel more attractive, glasses can make them look more intelligent and responsible. Studies have shown that people who wear glasses are more likely to get hired from a job interview than their non glasses wearing competitors.

So do glasses or contact lenses make a better impression? These studies would suggest that the answer lies somewhere down the middle. Therefore to get the best of both worlds wear your contact lenses on a date and keep a pair of glasses in your desk drawer at work!

Personally, I believe that the power of attraction, as related to your physical appearance, is more a factor of your confidence level and how you present yourself, as touched upon in this article. But, feeling good about yourself by wearing certain articles of clothing or, in this case, contacts, can bring your subconscious power and confidence to the surface.
