Some have found simple tools to learn how to meditate correctly, while others struggle along and, even attempt to develop their own techniques. The story of Kalei’s Buddhist Meditation Technique depicts how you can over-analyze yourself and ultimately undermine your success at meditation.
Using the correct meditation methods, you will be able to process it in your mind more effectively to lead you closer to your intended goals in a shorter amount of time.
A few years back, Kalei decided that it was his time to ascend to a state of enlightenment. He had done his research on Buddhist meditation techniques and was ready to implement what he learned from his books on Siddhartha Gautama and Gautama Buddha’s journey to enlightenment.
Kalei’s Enlightenment Story
Kalei hypothesized that by following the exact footsteps of Siddhartha, he should be able to achieve enlightenment.
He set out to test this hypothesis and planned out every detail of this project. He decided that he would mimic, as precisely as he could, every action that the Buddha took.
For example: It is said that Siddhartha Gautama achieved enlightenment while sitting under a Bodhi Tree. So, Kalei found an actual Bodhi Tree at the nearby arboretum to sit under.
Kalei never parted with one of his books on the subject, carrying it around wherever he went; and even slept with it under his pillow at night in an effort to absorb its content.
At the time he told me this story, he had been testing his hypothesis out for about two weeks. Everyday, he would go to the arboretum and sit under the Bodhi Tree and meditate until such time when the arboretum basically had to kick him out for the day.
Dejected, he would scurry home to dissect everything that he had done that day to try to understand what went wrong; why had he not achieved enlightenment.
I have to commend him for his efforts but the frustration on his face showed me that he was missing the whole point of enlightenment. I have never seen a photo of an enlightened being with frown-lines on their face. Have you?
Test Failed – Hypothesis Rejected
I don’t have to tell you that Kalei did not achieve enlightenment that way.
I have to say that I can’t fault you if you do choose the longer route of trial and error. I, unfortunately, also went that route. I have to admit that for myself it has taken me years of, literally, blood, sweat and tears to be able to control my thoughts to the point where I am able to successfully manifest tangible benefits from it.
Most of us tend to choose the difficult route because we are conditioned to believe that it is necessary to work harder for greater rewards. But, in actuality, we need not work harder but smarter to find the shortest route to our successes.
You can be successful in meditation the slow-mo way, like Kalei (eventually, did but not using his Buddhist Meditation Technique) and I did, through years of intensive study and wasting time. Or, you can choose the shorter and easier route to efficient meditation by finding the right meditation tools to get you there faster.

By “trial an error,” do you mean trial and error?

[...] Actually, this website IS really meant to be about SUPER conscious thought and connecting to the Cosmic Consciousness. Interestingly, the more you connect to this universal mind, the more mindLESS your actions will need to be as I talked a little about in a previous post called Don’t Use This Buddhist Meditation Technique.
